Extinct or Alive (2020) on Discovery
For Discovery’s Extinct or Alive with Forrest Galante I had the opportunity to deliver twenty different creature shots for seasons one and two, which aired during Shark Week. I was also responsible for creating accurate 3D models of scientific instruments to help showcase how they were used by the team to locate these rare animals.
These creature shots required a thorough amount of look development and studying each animal’s anatomy to create realistic textures and movement. I modeled, rigged, textured and animated a total of eight different animals between two episodes. Once each creature’s textures and animation were finalized I was able to direct the camera movements and lighting that would be used for the final shots.
Creature Modeling and Animation
Apart from creature modeling, I also modeled scientifically accurate technology (using ZBrush) that helped capture footage of these animals in their natural habitats. Using these models, I designed a series of shots and diagrams that illustrated to the audience exactly how these instruments were useful to biologists.
